Colorful Deposits

Limestone quality in Texas can change quickly and keeping track of your extraction and remaining reserves can be difficult.  Take a look as we show you what tracking those deposits using 3D mapping looks like.  The various colored surfaces represent changes in the topography between scans. It includes overburden removal, blasted rock and small piles of oversize on the quarry floor.

Accurate Stockpiling Inside a Hole

Stockpiling inside a hole can be tricky business because of the limited information available concerning the floor beneath the material to be measured.  Pre-Scanning the hole/pit before storage allows precise volume measurements.  Here are some images taken by one of our field specialists, Brett Murphy.  With Mobile LiDAR technology and skilled technicians, every measurement in this challenging scenario is now an apples to apples comparison with the past.  It offers superior accuracy and credibility.

This is a closed pit that has been designated now as the new location for inventory storage. By scanning this pit before adding any inventory, we will be able to get great measurement from here forward without having to guess the dimensions or depth of the hole.

Now that the hole has inventory in it we are able to compare the volume difference between when it is full and empty. No guesswork required.

Blast Perception 101

Over the years Firmatek Seismic has monitored thousands of quarry blasts, had many conversations with property owners, and drawn many a pictures to describe what occurs when a blast takes place.  I thought it might be helpful to post this simple video to help you understand what you may be feeling when your local quarry blasts.

Just this past week on several occasions we were thumbing through our archives to pull up data from previous inventories.  Our clients wanted to see how their inventories have changed shape and size between last week’s scan and the previous measurement.  Here’s an example of one such pile that has changed over time.

The brown dtm is the pile in May while the blue is the dtm six months later.

Pre-Construction Scanning Gives Better Information

This scan was taken of the actual topography before planning began to help determine how the new site could best be laid out.

The topography to be removed has been selected and made transparent. Notice the future loading area beneath the topography to be removed.

Topography has been removed and new site has been most efficiently designed.

Case Study: 3D Mobile Scanning used in Reserve Calculation and Mineable Modeling

“He inquired of Firmatek, LLC to see if there was a way to quantify his reserves and help him establish a profitable plan for excavating and updating the operation as the new mine progressed.”

In April of 2010 Firmatek performed services for a client who’d purchased a piece of property with the intention of mining it out.  By drilling core samples throughout the 500+ acre property Read more
